MIDDLETOWN, Ohio – WVU Tech was picked to repeat as conference champions in the 2021 River States Conference Women’s Cross Country Coaches’ Poll that was administered prior to the season. The Golden Bears won the RSC title last year and come into the year with eight of the possible 13 first-place votes from the head coaches in the league.
WVU Tech received 128 total votes in the polling conducted in the preseason. That was a comfortable gap from the rest of the conference, which now includes 13 total women’s cross country teams.
Midway (Ky.) University was predicted second in the poll. The Eagles earned 115 votes to enter the season in the same runner-up spot it claimed at last year’s RSC championship. Close behind Midway at third in the poll was conference newcomer St. Mary of the Woods (Ind.) College. The Pomeroys received 113 total votes, and they also earned attention around the conference with four first-place votes.
Point Park (Pa.) University came in fourth with 108 votes followed closely by Indiana University Kokomo in fifth with 106 votes. Indiana University East was sixth with 96 votes. Brescia (Ky.) University filled out the top half of the conference in seventh with 72 votes, and the Bearcats received the remaining first-place vote.
Ohio Valley (W.Va.) University joined St. Mary of the Woods as the other conference addition this year. Asbury (Ky.) University departed the conference at the end of the year. See below for the complete coaches’ poll.
